Clip art is a term associated with graphs, images and illustrations inserted into desktop publications and business applications and is now a term that is widely used on the World Wide Web for clip art, backgrounds, animated images, etc. that have been created in formats exclusively for Web page use.
Although most clip art may be converted (subject to the terms of usage for that clip art) for use in other applications and projects (such as desktop publication or Word) the quality of the image may not be suited for applications other than for Web page use.
