Definition: An image map is a graphic image that most commonly serves as a navigational system for Web pages. They can be scenic, artistic, decorative, jeweled or of some other design. An image map uses hot spots to take you to various pages of your Web site or, in some cases, display a picture, run a video or fulfill some other specific function.
Many Web masters use the terms image map, interfaces and controls iinterchangeably to mean a navigational system, many of which require JavaScript coding.
