Use a digital camera to take photographs, then turn the photographs into photo clips, photo objects, or framed photos using an image editor. * Scanned photos may also be used to create photo clips and photo objects, etc.

If you don't have a digital camera and are thinking you might enjoy one, browse the top picks below to find one to fit your needs and budget. My recommendation would be to buy a high-end camera with enough bells and whistles to satisfy your creativity for several years, but if you aren't sure you will enjoy taking digital photos then buy a low priced digital camera that could be replaced within a year.

Photo Clip:
A photograph that has been resized for use on Web pages and which may have a drop shadow. I used an older version of Paint Shop Pro to crop, resize, and add a drop shadow to the flower photo clip below.

Transfer your digital photos to your hard drive, or scan your photographs to your hard drive.

Use your image editor (Paint Shop Pro, PhotoImpact, Photoshop, etc.) to crop your photograph.

Next, use the image editor to resize the cropped photograph to fit your Web page.

Again, using the image editor, add a drop shadow to your cropped and resized photo.

You will need an image editor or image program that is capable of resizing images, cropping imaged, and adding a drop shadow. Your image editor will also need to be able to recognize and work with a variety of image formats.

Photo Object:
A photograph that has had the scenic background removed from about the image and normally has a transparent background for use on both white and colored Web pages. I used Paint Shop Pro to take out the background, the eagle body, and to create the transparent eagle photo object below.

Crop and resize your photograph for Web page use.

Use an image editor to outline the object or image in the photo that you want to use.

Using the image editor tools, erase or paint the background around the object a single color.

Use the image editor to turn the background around the object into a transparency.
