What Is Web Clip Art?

Find the answer to the question of What Is Web Clip Art?

Web clip art describes any image, graphic, background, icons, dividers, or clip art that has been created especially for use on the World Wide Web and Web pages. In most cases the clip art is created in .gif format and the photographs have been cropped or resized in .jpg format. Many of these elements are also used in other publications, including newsletters, craft projects, and desktop publishing projects as well as on Web pages, but there are other formats that would be more suited to desktop publishing, commercial projects, and newsletters than the .gif format.

Cartoons, linebars or dividers, bullets, titles, borders or corners, frames, photo clip art, photo clips, photo objects, animated images, navigation graphics, backgrounds, email buttons and images, and other Mixed Clip Art in various sizes, shapes, colors, and topics can all be referred to as Web clip art.

Linebars or Dividers: a line used to separate content. This line may be thin or think, long or short, or may be a line decorated with clip art, or a row of clip art images, and also may be animated. Animated dividers and linebars must be viewed with a Web browser or program that can show animated images.

Titles: used at the top of a page to proclaim the name, topic, or ownership of content. A title can be a plain text font or decorated with clip art images.

Bullets: used to draw attention to a specific area, to highlight a specific group of text, or to set apart a list of items. Bullets are normally small in size and can be any color or shape, including round balls, diamonds, and check marks.

Frames and Corners: used around the edges or corners of a page for decoration.

Photo Art: A photo art is a photo, or a partial or cropped photograph that has been manipulated with a graphics program filters, objects, painting techniques, and other enhancements to create a unique work of art. Photo Clip Art: A photo clip art is a blend of a photograph, or a partial photograph, and a clip art image or images. The clip art is added to the photograph and creates a new and different image or picture. Photo Clips: A photo clip is a photograph, or a partial photograph, that has been resized for Web use and which may have a drop shadowed added. Photo clips can be large or small but will have been sized to fit nicely on a Web page. View this selection of small sized Flower Photo Clips.

Photo Object: A photo object is an image taken, or cut, from a photograph. The background around the image or object is then removed or colored white. Normally, the background around the image is then turned into a transparent background so that when the photo object is placed on a Web site only the photo object is viewed. View a small selection of Butterfly Photo Objects with the backgrounds removed and a few butterfly objects with drop shadowed added.

Animated Images: clip art created by linking together multiple images that a Web browser sees and show as animation.

Navigation Graphics: a button, text, or image that a Web page address is added to so that when you click on the image, button, or text you will be taken to a different Web address.

Backgrounds: used as a background for your Web page content. Backgrounds, including borders, tiles, top borders, tables, and more, can be in various styles, and can be in a multitude of various designs, and colors.

Email Buttons and Images: an image, text, or clip art that is linked to pull up an email program or take you to a contact page.

Although Web clip art may be used in other projects, such as desktop publishing to create logos, greeting cards, invitations, etc., resizing Web clip art which has been created with pixels could cause the image to distort and there are formats other than .gif that would be more suited to commercial and desktop publishing purposes.
