Smilies

Smilies, or emotions, are fun to use on Web pages, forums, and emails, etc.

What you need to know before creating a smilie.

You will need a paint program or graphics program that will allow you to draw circles and ovals. You will also need to be able to fill the circles and ovals with colors. If you want to add a drop shadow or turn the smilie background transparent you will need a graphics program that has the option to add a shadow and to transparent backgrounds, as well as the knowledge on how to use these options in your paint or graphics software program.

How to Download Clip Art

1. Choose the circle and draw a circle.

2. Choose a bright yellow and fill the circle with the yellow color.

3. Choose the oval option, black for your color, and draw oval eyes. Fill the eyes with black color.

4. Use the color black and the pencil or brush to draw a downward half circle (a sad mouth).

3. Add a drop shadow to your bullet. You will need the option to "select" the bullet you just highlighted. After you select it, choose black for your shadow color, and use the drop shadow option to add the shadow.

Copy and save this drop shadowed bullet as a new image.

Your created smilies may be used on any white Web page background or used on any desktop publishing project that uses white paper. If you had the option to transparent the smilie background (the one without the drop shadow) your transparent smilie may be used on any colored Web page background.

Be creative and make more smilies in various sizes and colors. The visual steps for creating more smilies are shown below.

NOTE: For the eyes, draw a small ovals on the smilie face. Use the paint brush and yellow to delete the bottom part of the oval.

Create a heart by drawing a circle and filling it with red. Use white and a brush to delete the red color on the sides of the oval downward to form the bottom part of the heart. Delete pixels one at a time at the top of the heart to form the upper portion of the heart. Or you may download this small red heart to your computer and copy it onto the smilie using your graphics program.

Use the line tool to draw arms, and use ovals filled with black for the hands.
