The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this annual day of commemoration, every member state of the United Nations has an obligation to honor the victims of the Nazi era and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.
The clip art was created from a public domain image of the main gate of the Auschwitz I concentration camp in Poland. The words over the gate, Arbeit macht frei, is a German phrase meaning "labor makes (you) free" but as history has shown those that were forced to enter through that gate were never free.
Please take the time to reflect on the many that lost their lives during the Nazi era.
