How to Download Clip Art

You desperately need to find a specific image, an animated whirl-a-gig, a unique whatcha-ma-call-it ora thing-a-ma-jig that will draw attention to your Web page content to make your site distinctively outstanding. How do you find this special clip art treasure? Two ways to find clip art would be to use a search engine or to browse graphics rings.

Search Engines

Each search engine may return slightly different results for the same search criteria. Use each engine several times, using slightly different and creative wording each time. The sample below has been found using the Google search engine.

The words below will pull up slightly different lists of site when used in a search engine.

  • clip art
  • graphics
  • clipart
  • icons
  • animated clip art
  • You will find that your search has pulled up many sites with photos instead of clip art. You will also find sites that have no relation to clip art but have included the word "clip art" in their meta tags so the search engine will add them to your list. You will also find many sites with clip art, icons, animations, backgrounds, and more.

    Graphics Rings

Web sites with clip art may also belong to a graphics ring. When you surf the site looking for clip art also notice if the site has a link to a RINGS page, or if they have rings links at the bottom of their home page or clip art pages. Normally a rings link will have a LIST SITES text link at the bottom of the graphic image. Clicking on the List Sites link will take you to a page or pages of individual Web sites with clip art and graphics.

The home page of the Graphics Ring is listed below. Near the top of the page in small letters is a List of Sites link. Clicking on this text link will allow you to search all the clip art sites that have joined this ring.

Note: Please check the terms of usage before downloading clip art and images, as the word FREE may be listed on the front page of the Website or on the clip art index, but when you read the terms of usage you'll find that the clip art is free only for your personal Web pages and only with a link and/or credit back.
