Let's Go Surfing!
Get ideas for your own Web site by surfing other sites.

By Bobbie Peachey, About.com

Just beginning to build a Web site? Need ideas for content, clip art, and backgrounds? The quickest way to gain knowledge for blending backgrounds, graphics, clip art, music, and content is to surf the Web. Look closely at each Web site or page that catches your interest to see how clip art was used to enhance the content, to determine how the background and music sets the tone for the content. Does everything blend and work together?

  • Did the use of background and clip art catch your interest?
  • If the clip art caught your attention, did the content live up to your expectations?
  • Was the music used to enhance the overall feel of the site?
  • Was the text easy to read?
  • Was the site easy to navigate through?
  • Visiting other sites is an excellent way to pick up ideas for our own Web site, so grab your surfboard and let's go surfing!

Notice that the music, background and clip art helps to set the stage for the content of this site. While here, why not grab your favorite beverage and browse the various content areas. Don't forget the Java animation and Lake Effects sections.

If you still need ideas for Web sites, keep surfing until your ideas for your own special Web page and the type of content you want to offer. Follow links from one site to another, browse Web rings, or put a topic into a search engine and surf away.
